Purging the Crawfish

Purging the Crawfish

Now, comes the most essential part of making the perfect seafood boil, purging the crawfish! Many ask that is it really necessary to purge the crawfish? Our experts advise that it is one of the most essential steps. This will make sure that you get the perfect seafood boil. The reason behind this is that crawfish excrete waste through their gills. Therefore, it is a must that you purge them. And do not skip this step!

For this you can place the crawfish in a large container. At Red Crab we use a large ice chest with a top. You can place a board at the bottom, under one side so that it helps drain the dirty water. You can soak the crawfish in water for 2 to 3 minutes. Then pull them out and rinse them under open water till the water runs clear. Especially if you go for crawfish that are not pond-raised and you do not clean them properly you will feel your seafood boil taste different. For the best results is essential that you clean the crawfish properly.

How to tell if Crawfish has Gone Bad?

How to tell if Crawfish has Gone Bad?

To tell if the crawfish you have purchased have gone bad or are dead, notice their tails. If the tails are straight, then know that the crawfish has gone bad and is dead. Furthermore, you can also tell by pulling the head off of a cooked crawfish. When you pull the head apart from the rest of the crawfish and it looks brown and dark from the inside, the crawfish you have might be rotten. To check, smell it. If it has a funny smell that discard it as it would not be okay to consume.
